‘I’m up in the air’: Town hall aims to convince Hillsborough County voters to pass millage tax increase

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The Hillsborough County School District is hoping a community town hall can convince taxpayers to vote for a millage tax increase.

Dennis Van is a father of five. He walked into Wednesday’s town hall planning to vote against the millage referendum.

“Pretty much at a place where everyone else is, I don’t have the money nowadays,” he said. “I’m not getting a raise, why should teachers?”

The proposed tax increase would cost Hillsborough County homeowners $1 for every $1,000 in property value.
